“All you need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” - Charles Schulz
Best Chocolate Cake Ever!
This cake reminds me of my birthdays growing up. It was my go-to cake each year. It became such a tradition that everyone just expects it each year.
The consistency of this cake is somewhere between a sheet cake and a brownie--denser than a sheet cake but not quite as dense a brownie. It's just chocolatey goodness!
Add to that chocolatey goodness an icing that is almost like fudge, and your tastebuds will do a happy dance!
If the idea of baking a cake from scratch scares you, this is a great recipe to try. You don't have to worry about whether the cake rises perfectly. It's not that kind of fluffy cake. AND, my family doesn't even take it out of the pan before serving it. So there's no worry about whether the layers crack or break! So bake without fear!
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter (No substitutions)
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
15 oz of chocolate syrup
1 tsp vanilla
Directions
Grease and flour a 9" x 13" pan. Preheat oven to 350 F.
Cream butter and sugar together. Mix eggs into the batter one at a time.
In a separate bowl mix together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the dry ingredients to the butter, sugar and eggs mixture. Beat well.
Add the chocolate syrup and vanilla and mix until chocolate is worked into the batter.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake at 350 F for 40 to 45 minutes. A cake tester will come out clean when the cake is done. Cool the cake in the pan. Serve from the pan.
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter (No substitutions)
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
Melt the butter in a sauce pan and then stir in the sugar, milk and salt. Bring this mixture to a boil & stir while boiling for about a minute. Remove the sauce pan from the stove and add the chocolate chips to the mixture. Stir the mixture until the chips have melted and the icing is smooth and creamy.
After the cake is slightly cooled, pour the icing on the cake while the cake is in the cake pan. Smooth the icing over the cake from edge to edge of the pan. The icing will become firm.
Cut cake into squares and serve from the pan. Enjoy!
